Toychubekova Carpet & Shyrdak Group
Large 13-artisan workshop in Zhany Aral village, Jalal-Abad region — specialised in pressed-felt carpets and shyrdak rugs for export.
The Toychubekova group is one of the largest village-level artisan workshops in southern Kyrgyzstan. Founded and led by Zhambila Toychubekova in the village of Zhany Aral (Jalal-Abad region), the group employs 13 women artisans producing traditional carpets and shyrdaks for the international market via the Nomad Store export channel. Production runs the full cycle: from sheep-shearing in spring (often using the artisans’ own livestock), through felt pressing and dyeing with natural pigments, to the slow stitching of cut-out shyrdak panels. Travelers visiting through EcoNomad can spend half a day learning the basics of feltmaking under the guidance of senior artisans.
