Tokmok

Tokmok is a small district town 60 km east of Bishkek, on the historical Silk Road between the Boom Gorge and the capital. Its main draw is nearby Burana Tower, the surviving minaret of the medieval Karakhanid city of Balasagun. Tokmok itself has a busy weekly bazaar and one of the country's largest Dungan (Hui) communities, whose mosques and food culture make for an offbeat half-day stop.
