Khorezm Region

Khorezm Region in the desert north-west of Uzbekistan is dominated by the walled city of Khiva, an open-air museum of Silk Road architecture inside the well-preserved fortress of Itchan-Kala. Beyond the city, the Kyzylkum desert hides ancient fortresses like Ayaz-Kala and Toprak-Kala that once watched over caravan routes.
